Joe Royce Grindstaff

Bakersville - Joe Royce Grindstaff, 82, of Bakerville, passed away Monday, March 8, 2010, at the Blue Ridge Regional Hospital in Spruce Pine. He was a native of Mitchell County, and was the son of the late Forrest and Mary Woody Grindstaff. He was self employed as a long distance truck driver. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Navy and SeaBees. He was a

Member and Deacon of the Toecane Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Betty June Johnson Grindstaff, of the home; daughter, Rebecca G. McKinney and husband, Kevin, of Bakersville; brother, Lyda Grindstaff and wife, Dorothy, of Bakersville; grandaughter, Stacie Jo Johnson and husband, Marty, of North Wilkesboro; two special girls, Jenny and Kelly McKinney who called him Pa Joe; special great nephew, Craig Grindstaff and wife, Bethany.

He was preceded in death by twin sister, Joyce Grindstaff; sister, Lela Rhyne; brother, Louie Grindstaff.

The funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 11, 2010, in the Chapel of Henline-Hughes Funeral Home in Bakersville. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service. Sherrill Whitson, Mark McKinney, and Mike Grindstaff will be officiating the service. Interment will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 12, 2010, at the Green Young Cemetery.
