Hoover Johnson
Burnsville - Hoover Johnson, 81, of Burnsville, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, February 7, 2010, at the home of his daughter and son in law. A native of the Little Creek community of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Fred and Creasy Higgins Johnson. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Wayne Johnson and Titus Johnson. Hoover was a very active member of Cane River Baptist Church. He was a logger, farmer and a merchant. He also retired from the Yancey County School System as a custodian at the Mountain Heritage High School and he loved listening to gospel music, reading his bible, gardening, mowing his lawn, but most of all he loved his family and his church. Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Estella Whitson Johnson; a daughter, Mary Frances and husband, Clyde Turner, of Micaville; sisters, Verlyn Peggy and husband, Lewis Westall, of the Beaver Lake community, Margaret English of Weaverville and Chloe Swilley of Saradoa, Fla.; two granddaughters, Mary Beth and husband, Rev. Shane Cassida, and Mary Anne Annie Turner of Woodfin; great-grandchildren, Ian and Eli Cassida; several nieces and nephews also survive. The funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, February 10, 2010, in Cane River Baptist Church. Pastor Shane Cassida will officiate. Burial will be 1 p.m. Thursday in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends two hours prior to the service at the church and at other times will be at the home.
