Mabel Wike Hooper Lake

Brevard – Mabel Wike Hooper Lake, 90, of Brevard, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at The Oaks of Brevard.

She was born on March 19, 1918. Mabel was a long time resident of Jackson County and had lived in Brevard for the past 25 years, spending winters in Winter Haven, Fla. with her brother.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Milas and Jessie Wike; her husband, Elden Hooper; son, Kenneth Hooper; and brother, Sigmon Wike.

Survivors include one son, Kirk Davis Hooper and wife, Sharon Vance, of Brevard; one sister, Lela Wike McCorkle of Hickory; two grandchildren, Amber Hooper Scott and husband, Patrick, of Brevard, and Forrest Kirk Hooper and wife, Tamia, of Virginia Beach, Va.; and four wonderful greatgrandchildren, Ivy, Camille, Kenny and Leigh.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 17, 2009, at Calvary Baptist Church in Brevard, with the Rev. Stephen Moore officiating. The family will receive friends 1 p.m. prior to the service at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Wike Cemetery in East LaPorte, N.C. at 4 p.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Al Cauley officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 133 Osborne Road, Brevard, NC 28712.
